Carafe for an hour before serving
Rioja 2008, Crianza, Olarra, Cerro Anon, Spain red, $15.85, SAQ # 11472581. Curious wine. I opened it, poured a glass, had a sniff and just left it there. It had that overly vanilla smell, and I was worried I was about to get a creamy-textured, newfangled Rioja. Two hours later, it was so much better. Ripe fruit, yes, but underneath all the layers of spice and fruit was the tempranillo leather and enough acidity to keep it fresh. Good wine. Carafe one hour. Serve at 18C. Drink now-2014. Food pairing idea: beef stews.
